Vallo’s Lucky Charm.
One of Vallo’s prized possessions is his “lucky charm”, which is a small metallic humanoid hand that is attached to a necklace. Whenever asked about it, he goes into a long story about “Lucky Bill”, a gnome named William Soopin Alastair Gemcutter Grollentin. “Lucky Bill” as he was called, ran a dice game on a floating a giant ship named the “Scarlet Scale” in the Astral Sea that functioned as both an illegal gambling ring, inn, and brothel. While in between raids one time, Vallo decided to try his luck against “Lucky Bill”‘s. After a half hour, Vallo was soon 5000 gold pieces in debt. It was at this time after losing all his money, that his grimlock battlemind bodyguard, Orros, pointed out that Bill had been cheating the entire time. After grumbling about how Orros should have told him at the start, Vallo ordered Orros to seize Bill to get his money back. Resorting to typical gnome tactics, Bill turned invisible and tried to duck out under the table they were playing on. Unfortunately “Lucky Bill”’s luck ran out, since grimlock’s use blindsense to see, so Orros caught him in under 3 seconds and off to the “Disgrace of the West” they went. Vallo usually ends the story here. Whenever pressed further about “Lucky Bill”‘s fate, he usually just jokes that his hand has never let him down. Whether the metallic hand around Vallo’s neck actually belongs to Bill, or if Vallo is once again full of shit, is unknown. In either case, it’s probably better just to leave it alone.
